Monday Beach Day

Since many of you have heard me voice my unenthusiastic opinion of this state, I will  say that December in the panhandle is very pleasant, after getting past  the first day of humidity. Sunny and 65° With  a little breeze is delightful. After we drove past beach house after beach house we found wide  open areas with nothing but white sands and beach grass. Mark even fell asleep on the beach, which is highly  unusual for him.
For a quick minute, I thought we were in Michigan!!!

SUNDAY DRIVE

Continuing southbound in Arkansas.  75 degrees with intermittent rain.  We would soon see our destination state...Florida.  I made arrangements to stay at a campground near Pensacola that is run by a church.  22 full hookup sites!  And a really good price!  We had intended to visit the Naval Air Museum but because of the recent shootings at the Naval base, only people with high level security are allowed to enter.  Maybe another time.  Our plan is to hang around here for a few days until we check in at our January project at the Florida Sheriff Boys Ranch in Live Oak, Florida.

INTERSTATE 65

So we decided to avoid a lot of traffic, and chose to try I-65 which may take a bit longer but we would avoid some bigger cities like Atlanta.  So far, its been really a nice drive.  We blew through Louisville, but it was early in the morning and being a Saturday, little traffic.

We spent the night at a golf resort campground called Quail Creek.  The rain had made the red dirty very sloppy.  The campground really needed some improvements.  But, hey...it was only for the night.  Ha ha.

ON THE ROAD!!!!

Friday morning and we are off!  Uneventful day of driving and for our first night, we stayed at one of our Boondocker sights South of Indianapolis.  Since it was almost dark by the time we arrived, we were not able to truly enjoy the beautiful spot.  It was 1/2 mile off a country road with an earthen dam along the drive, surrounded by woods.  The hosts were away for the weekend, but if they had been there, I'm afraid we would have been up half the night talking.  :)

Almost Ready

It is December 26 and we are almost ready to hit the road.  Looking back at my first post at this time last year, my prayer was that the mice would not move in and take over while we were gone.  That prayer was answered mightily...not a trace of mice. Thank you Lord!!!

Our first project this year is in a state that I typically have not been fond of...Florida.  We will be serving in the Florida panhandle at a project called Sheriff's Boys Ranch in Live Oak.  I figured, being in the panhandle would keep us from all the craziness of "typical" Florida.  The average high temps are supposed to be 70, so I should be happy.  Hopefully we can steer clear of the South bound snow bird stragglers leaving right after Christmas.  I read that Saturday this year will be the lightest traffic traveling day.  That remains to be seen.

The weather here has been so beautiful for loading the 5th wheel...no coats even required.  I WAS hoping for more snow before we left though, because I really do like it.  Can't have it both ways though.

Stay tuned for further updates.
